Threatened journalist remembers father killed in Calabria

Reggio Calabria, January 24 - A young journalist in the central Italian region of Emilia-Romagna reportedly under threat by criminal organizations in the southern Italian region of Calabria said his father, who was allegedly killed by the 'Ndrangheta mafia had taught him to "fight on". Peppe Tizian, a banker, was killed in 1989 while returning home after work. The killer was never found, though police believe Tizian was targeted by the local criminal organization. Giovanni Tizian spoke about his father Peppe in an interview with Calabrian online newspaper Strill, last year. "As a father, for the few years that he held me by hand, he was able to transmit to me the ethics of courage and honesty" Giovanni Tizian told Strill. "With his death, he taught me to fight on". The Tizian family relocated to the central Italian region of Emilia-Romagna after the death of Peppe.
