Soccer: Ballardini takes over at struggling Genoa

Genoa, October 22 - Struggling Genoa reappointed former coach Davide Ballardini after sacking Luigi Delneri following Sunday's 2-0 home defeat to Catania in Serie A. Ballardini is Genoa's third coach this season. Delneri replaced Luigi De Canio in October, when Italy's oldest club were midtable, following a poor run of form. They are now third from bottom and in a relegation battle after losing nine games out of 13 under former Juventus, AS Roma and Chievo Verona boss Del Neri. Genoa finished 10th in Serie A during Ballardini's previous stint at the club, in the 2010-11 season. It is Serie A's eighth change of coach so far this season. Sampdoria, bottom side Siena, second-bottom Palermo, Chievo Verona, Cagliari and Pescara have also changed coaches. photo: Davide Ballardini
