Accident dismantling scenery Milan's' La Scala opera house

Milan, January 16 - A workplace accident in the middle of the night marred the dismantling of scenery at the La Scala opera house early Wednesday. The incident happened after the season premiere of Giuseppe Verdi's last opera Falstaff - staged in honor of the 200th anniversary of Verdi's birth and the 120th anniversary of Falstaff's debut at La Scala. An ambulance took two theatre workers suffering minor injuries to nearby Fatebenefratelli hospital shortly after 2:00am. One of them, age 35, suffered a cut to the scalp after a wooden table fell on him. Police also responded to the incident. Theater worker unions spoke of four injured in two separate incidents, and asked for an urgent meeting with the president of the Scala Foundation - and mayor of Milan - Giuliano Pisapia.
