Defence team want pair to testify

Clooney, Ronaldo requested for Berlusconi sex trial

(see related stories) Milan, January 14 - Silvio Berlusconi's defence team said Monday that it has requested that a Milan court call American actor George Clooney and Real Madrid forward Cristiano Ronaldo to testify in the trial into allegations the former Italian premier paid for sex with an underage prostitute. Berlusconi's lawyers have said the pair can help prove his claim that so-called Bunga Bunga sex parties at his homes were actually innocent affairs. Karima El Mahroug, a Moroccan runaway and belly dancer also known as Ruby who allegedly took money for sex from the ex-premier, has told prosecutors she saw Clooney at a party in Berlusconi's Sardinian villa. She has also said she spent a night in a hotel with Ronaldo. Clooney denies having ever been to the Sardinian villa, but the actor once said he spent "an astonishing" night at the ex-premier's Rome residence. Berlusconi's lawyers also requested the court call four other witnesses on Monday, including the mother of the young woman he is accused of paying for sex before she was 18.
