Enrolment for new specialisation from next academic year

Italy gives go-ahead to sports schools

Rome, January 11 - The Italian government on Friday gave its blessing to the creation of high schools specialising in sports-related disciplines. The new specialisation complements existing specializations in science, languages, arts and the classics. Prospective students - including disabled students - will be able to sign up for the new school starting from the 2013/2014 academic year. "The main aim of the provision is to systematise teaching experience already acquired autonomously in many schools and at the same time to enforce the formative offering by strengthening the role of sport in schools," said a statement. The new specialisation includes two new subjects - sports law and economics and sporting disciplines - to replace drawing and art history and Latin language and culture that are currently taught in science-oriented schools. In the new syllabus motor and sport science will also be strengthened.
