Soccer: Inter sign Rocchi from Lazio

Milan, January 4 - Inter Milan said Friday that they had signed 35-year-old striker Tommaso Rocchi from Lazio. The forward was Lazio's club captain and he leaves Rome after eight years with the club, whom he helped to win the Italian Cup in 2009. He had fallen down the striker pecking order this season and, with coach Vladimir Petkovic often fielding Germany's Miroslav Klose on his own up front, he has only managed three Serie A appearances so far this season. He is set to play understudy to Argentine Diego Milito at Inter, who are joint third in Serie A with 35 points, nine behind leaders Juventus and one behind second-placed Lazio. "F.C. Internazionale welcomes Tommaso Rocchi to the club," read a club statement. "The paperwork relating to the striker's transfer from S.S. Lazio has been delivered to the Lega Serie A offices. Rocchi has joined Inter on a permanent deal. "The Veneto-born frontman will wear the number 18 shirt at Inter".
