Bologna, January 2 - Police said on Wednesday that a 42-year-old man missing since December 28 faked his own kidnapping and disappearance in an attempt to pay off his debts. The man, who reappeared on Monday in a town near the city of Bologna from where he was allegedly snatched, said he had been abducted by three men who stole 75,000 euros from him. He later confessed to police that he had been hiding at his sister's house and he had used part of the 50,000 euros entrusted to him by a friend to repay outstanding debts. Both the man and his sister have been cited by police.
