Turin, January 2 - Federico Peluso is set to be Juventus's first signing of the January transfer window after the Serie A champions said Wednesday that the Atalanta defender was having a medical with them. The Turin giants, who are eight points clear at the top of the table, need to reinforce their back line after Italy centre-back Giorgio Chiellini suffered a calf injury that is set to sideline him for three months. Juve also bid farewell last month to former Brazil defender Lucio, who rescinded his contract to join Sao Paulo. Peluso, 28, can play in the centre of defence or at left back. He has three Italy caps and scored his first international goal in a 2-0 win over Malta in a World Cup qualifier in September. Juve are set to pay one million euros to loan Peluso from Atalanta until the end of the season, according to media reports, with an option to make the move permanent via payment of another four million euros.
