Police seize over two tonnes of illegal fireworks in Naples

Naples, December 28 - Four people were arrested Friday and over two tonnes of illegal fireworks were seized in and around Naples as police sweeps ahead of New Year's Eve intensified. Among those arrested was Salvatore Todisco, 20, an alleged member of the Camorra clan Di Lauro, dominant in the city's Rione dei Fiori neighborhood. Police said that when they arrested Todisco he was suffering a gunshot wound to the leg from a shooting earlier this week. Naples police, together with a special canine unit from the region of Veneto, carried out a massive operation dubbed "high impact" in a preventive action to seize extremely powerful and illegal fireworks. Italy's traditional New Year fireworks mayhem regularly results in burns and mutilations. Naples is usually the worst-hit city, recording the highest number of injuries.
