Economic crisis being felt at Italian cinema box offices

Rome, December 27 - The economic crisis is taking a bite out of the box office, with cinema ticket sales falling 25% on December 25 and 26, according to statistics released Thursday. Cinetel, which represents about 90% of the Italian cinema market, said ticket sales at its cinemas fell by 25% compared with December 25 and 26, 2011. The hottest film on those two days this year was "Colpi di fulmine" which drew an audience of 395,000 in Italy on Christmas Day and Boxing Day (known as Santo Stefano Day in Italy.) That was followed by "I due soliti idioti", with 318,000 viewers and in third place, "The Hobbit".
