Rome, December 27 - Italy's national anti-mafia prosecutor, Piero Grasso, has asked for leave to stand in the February 24-25 general election. Grasso, who has a distinguished record in fighting organised crime, is the second anti-mafia prosecutor to throw his hat into the ring after ex-Palermo prosecutor Antonio Ingroia. Ingroia has announced he will lead a left-wing civic list. Grasso has yet to say where he will stand.
