Christmas comes early for Rome zoo's residents

Rome, December 21 - Christmas came early for the many residents at Rome's zoo, called Bioparco, as the animals scampered, crawled and slithered to open presents distributed by their keepers on Friday. For the ring-tailed lemurs, perhaps best known as the protagonists of the famous cartoon film Madagascar, Santa's elves scattered colored boxes filled with delectable mixed fruit and honey treats, red peppers and balls to play with. All during the Christmas holidays the Bioparco has organized family-oriented fun with treasure hunts, surprise performances and educational gags. This year, festivities are dedicated to the mythical unicorn and park staff will be explaining the history and mystery surrounding the magical steed. Park officials recommend visiting at feeding time, 11am to 3pm daily.
