Monti to be 'small player' in election run, Berlusconi says

Rome, December 20 - Former Italian prime minister Silvio Berlusconi said his successor Mario Monti would be a ''small player'' in the political fray if he decides to run in the upcoming February general elections. Berlusconi, who has announced he plans to run, said the fiscal pressure on Italians has increased by some 2% since Premier Monti took leadership of the euro zone's third-largest economy in November last year. Berlusconi, who was speaking on radio talk show Radio Anch'io, said he was available to hold a public debate with center-left coalition leader Pierluigi Bersani and Monti.
