Rome, December 18 - The number of crimes reported in Italy dropped slightly in 2010 over the previous year even as the exploitation of prostitution showed a double-digit rise, the national statistics institute said on Tuesday. Police reported 2,621,000 crimes to the judicial authorities in 2010, a 0.3% decrease over the year before according to Istat. Reports of usury fell by 19.4%, murder by 10.2%, mafia-related crimes by 23.3% and armed robberies by 5.8%. Exploitation of prostitution bucked the trend with a 21% increase in reported cases over the previous year.
