Snow, ice, high winds cause disruption in Italy

Rome, December 14 - The centre and north of Italy were in the grips of another cold snap on Friday as heavy snowfall created disruption to road and air traffic. A blizzard struck the Ligurian coast on Thursday night, leaving ships stuck outside Genoa port. On Friday heavy vehicles were being escorted along the A6 Savona-Turin motorway between the Ligurian coastal city and Ceva in Piedmont further north. Disruptions were also reported in the regions of Lombardy and Marche, where ice was causing problem on roads. Motorway manager Autostrade per l'Italia said around 1,000 km of the motorway network was affected by bad weather, while national flagcarrier Alitalia warned of delays and cancellations to flights.
