Rome, December 12 - As an increasing number of women immigrate to Italy, governments must pay special attention to their needs, a conference heard Wednesday. Approximately 2.4 million women are recent immigrants in Italy, and worldwide 49% of all immigrants are women, a conference organized by the International Organization for Migration (IOM) was told. Women tend to integrate well into their new countries, bringing stability, said Cristina Ravaglia, of the Italian foreign ministry. Women also seek out employment in their new homes, she added. That trend can be seen in projections to 2020 suggesting a 45% increase in the number of foreign workers in Italy.
