Naples, December 12 - Italian police have launched a massive search for three men who escaped from the Bellizzi Irpino prison near the southern city of Avellino overnight. A fourth convict who also took part in the jail break has already been captured. The group made a hole in the wall in their cell bathroom, climbed down to the prison yard using sheets and then scaled the outer wall with the help of trash cans, a prison warden union said. The captured man was stopped by Carabinieri police in a stolen car near the city of Potenza. All four were in prison for serious crimes. The man with the shortest sentence was set to be released in 2028, the union said.
