Female employment bucks negative trend

Number of job seekers in Italy up 34%

Rome, December 7 - The number of people looking for work in recession-hit Italy rose by 34% between the first half of 2011 and the first half of 2012, statistics institute Censis said on Friday. The number of job seekers rose by over 700,000 to 2.75 million, an increase that Censis described as "truly exceptional". Female employment however bucked the trend, with 110,000 new jobs - a rise of 1.2% - created between 2010 and 2011. This trend is set to continue into 2012, Censis said.
