Austerity protest turns violent in Modena

Modena, December 6 - Austerity protests became violent in Modena on Thursday with clashes injuring two police officers and one student. The march, which was organized to oppose cuts to schools, arrived in front of the offices of Italian industrial confederation Confindustria, where several protesters attempted to enter but were blocked by police. Other demonstrators hurled eggs and smoke bombs. The injured student was struck by a police night stick across the neck as he reached to pick up a banner.
