Justice minister says law will make prison more bearable

Italian law on alternative sentences up for final approval

Brussels, December 5 - Approval of a draft law on alternative sentences is a step "in the right direction," Justice Minister Paola Severino said Wednesday. The law will help to reduce the size of prison populations and help to make life more liveable in prisons, she said. Also endorsing the plan was Interior Minister Anna Maria Cancellieri, on the sidelines of the launch of the Global Alliance against Child Pornography in Brussels. The bill has been approved by the House.
