Next govt must keep implementing Monti reforms says IMF

New York, November 29 - The government that emerges from next spring's general election must stick to the reform agenda of Premier Mario Monti, the International Monetary Fund said Thursday. Monti's "structural reforms and strong measures to stabilise the budget...go in the right direction," said IMF External Relations Director Gerry Rice. "What counts is continuing to implement these reforms". Monti, who took over from Silvio Berlusconi a year ago, has passed spending cuts and pension reforms aimed at structurally balancing the budget next year and starting to bring down Italy's huge debt, 120% of GDP, the second-biggest in the eurozone after Greece's.
