Naples, November 27 - Italian police in Naples arrested 17 people on Tuesday, saying they had busted a scam in which liver-transplant patients sought reimbursements for trips abroad for medical treatment that never took place. The suspects face charges of criminal association, fraud against the national health service, and falsification of documents. Police said the suspects are genuinely ill, but the trips and expenses they claimed were not. The fraud amounted to more than one million euros, investigators said. Fifteen of those arrested were placed under house arrest. The other two are required not to move away from their home towns.
