Soccer: struggling Pescara put Bergodi in charge

Pescara, November 20 - Struggling Serie A side Pescara appointed Cristiano Bergodi as their head coach on Tuesday. He replaces Giovanni Stroppa, who quit at the weekend following a 1-0 defeat to Siena and a 6-1 drubbing by Juventus the week before. Those results leave Pescara third from bottom in the table with 11 points from 13 games. Former defender Bergodi, 48, played for Pescara from 1984 to 1989 before joining Lazio for a seven-year stint with the Rome club. He made his name as coach in Romania, working with top clubs including National Bucharest, CFR Cluj, Rapid Bucharest and Steaua Bucharest. His previous job was with Modena in Italy's second tier, Serie B. Bergodi's first match will be against the AS Roma side of Zdenek Zeman, who led Pescara to promotion from Serie B last season.
