Di Pietro announces new constituent phase amid corruption claims

IDV leader 'looks forward' to removing name from party logo

Rome, November 16 - Leader of the opposition party Italy of Values (IdV) and former anti-graft magistrate Antonio Di Pietro on Friday said he was looking forward to removing his name from the party logo. ''I can't wait to be able to remove my name from the symbol because it means the party will be standing on its own two feet,'' said the embattled leader currently at the centre of corruption allegations over his possible misuse of party funds. Di Pietro has denied any wrongdoing but the allegations - made in a recent episode of the hard-hitting investigative television programme Report - have already prompted high-profile defections from the party and raised questions about its future. The leader announced the imminent start of a new constituent phase leading to a party congress. ''You can be sure that Italy of Values and its seagull (featured on the party logo) will be present at the next elections,'' Di Pietro said.
