Italian museum wants Notre Dame bells

Genoa, November 15 - The Bell Museum of Avegno in northern Italy has offered to safeguard and showcase the four historic bells of Paris' Notre Dame Cathedral, according to the town's mayor Giuseppe Tassi. Tassi first made the proposal to the tourism councillor of the region of Liguria, where Avegno is based. The bells, welded in the 1800s, are to be substituted in February to mark the 850th anniversary of the cathedral. Notre Dame priest Patrick Jacquin is reported to have planned to melt the bells down.
