Milan, November 14 - Italian telecom Wind reported Wednesday that its revenues in the first nine months fell by 5% compared with the same period last year. Revenues totalled 1.33 billion euros in the first three quarters of the year, lower than 2011 figures, due to a weaker economic climate and a drop in termination rates, the telecom said. Earnings before interest, taxes, depreciation, and amortization (EBITDA), which measures operating profitability, also dropped by 5% to 537 million euros. However, revenues from mobile Internet services rose by a dramatic 43.1%, the company said. Wind's gross operating margin in the first nine months fell by 2.4% to 1.549 million euro "as a result of lower revenues and the increased costs of energy supply, partially offset by cost control initiatives," the company said in a statement.
