Arrested nurse 'discussed murder plans with son, 11' (2)

Varese, November 29 - A nurse who was arrested over multiple suspicious deaths Tuesday along with her physician lover appeared to discuss plans to murder various people with her 11-year-old son, according to wiretapped conversations. Laura Tauroni is heard saying things like: "We're going to off Grandma Maria..." and "We can off Nene whenever we want, and Aunt Adriana too". A total of 14 people are under investigation in five suspicious deaths - four of them at Saronno city hospital - that led to the arrests earlier today of physician Leonardo Cazzaniga and his lover, Taroni. The rest of the suspects are almost all hospital staff, sources said. Carabinieri police also searched hospital management premises. Cazzaniga, 60, who is also described as an anesthetist, was arrested in the deaths of four patients as well as that of Tauroni's husband. "In treating terminally ill patients, (Cazzaniga) relied on a 'protocol' all his own," prosecutors said. The investigation was sparked when a nurse turned to authorities.
