Rome, November 9 - The government declared southern Italy's Pollino area to be in a 'state of emergency' at a cabinet meeting on Friday following a magnitude 5 earthquake on October 26. The quake killed one elderly man, scared thousands from their homes in the middle of the night and caused considerable damage. The Pollino spreads across the provinces of Cosenza and Potenza. The area has been affected by a 'seismic swarm' that has produced more than 2,200 tremors, mostly just rumblings, in the last two years.
