Italian bishops conference calls for 'sobriety' in weddings

Rome, November 9 - The Italian Bishops Conference (CEI) on Friday called for more sobriety and less waste in marriage celebrations, slamming over-the-top ceremonies. "A serious invitation for sobriety in the preparation of the event is called for today more than ever," the group said in its report Pastoral Orientation for the Preparation of Marriage and the Family. Wedding celebrations may be the right moment to partake in acts of charity, in which "sharing with the poor and attention towards the needs of the churchgoing community are highlighted," according to the report.
