Pisa, November 9 - Souvenir sellers in Pisa's signature Piazza del Duomo on Friday received hefty fines and an injunction to leave their pitches under new rules making their presence in the square illegal. Municipal police presented each of the 44 sellers with a 5,000 euro fine in an operation that was reportedly peaceful. It followed a decision by the city council to transfer the souvenir sellers to a nearby carpark from November 1, leading to a dispute between the parties. "They treat us like criminals," one seller said. "But we are here to do our work".
