Rome, November 7 - Renato Schifani, Speaker of the Italian senate, praised the spirit of reconciliation promised after Tuesday's United States presidential election and said Wednesday that he hopes the same can be found after Italy's next vote. "It has been a fierce competition...but the fact that Romney has already called Obama to congratulate him gives a sense of the will for an immediate reconciliation," said Schifani. "I hope that this will happen to us after the vote next year, and that it is auspicious for a serene climate of collaboration". A general election is expected in Italy next spring. Schifani said he was also looking forward "to the renewal of...cooperation and friendship between Italy and the U.S.".
