'Common growth goal' Alfano says after Obama win

Rome, November 7 - The United States and Europe have the common goal of relaunching growth, the secretary of ex-premier Silvio Berlusconi's People of Freedom (Pdl) party, Angelino Alfano, said after Barack Obama won a second term as US president. "We have an objective to cultivate together, to restart growing the American and European economies on two continents which together must once again prove they are promoters of democracy, freedom and prosperity in the whole world," Alfano said. "I have great admiration for American democracy because it gives citizens the chance to choose their president," the PdL secretary said. In Italy the president is voted by parliament. The PdL has often advocated a switch to a French-style 'semi-presidential' system.
