Obama won against populism and for jobs says Bersani

Rome, November 7 - Barack Obama won a second term as United States president by fighting against populism and focusing on jobs, Italian centre-left leader Pier Luigi Bersani said Wednesday. "It is significant that Obama won by fighting all populist language, choosing the difficult path of the truth and putting at the centre of his programme the issues of solidarity and jobs," said the Democratic Party (PD) chief, voicing "great satisfaction" at the election result. Bersani, currently favourite to become next Italian premier in April, said Democrat Obama's win over Republican rival Mitt Romney would also boost the relationship between the US and Europe, especially "on the need to relaunch growth".
