Rome police seek identity of interior minister whistleblower

Rome, November 6 - Rome prosecutors on Tuesday opened an investigation into the identity of the person who on Monday sent Interior Minister Anna Maria Cancellieri a letter highlighting a variety of irregularities in the ministry's contracts-tender procedures. Police are carrying out a series of preliminary checks while prosecutors in the capital have established contact with their colleagues in Naples, who are investigating a case of irregularities in a contract for the building of an electronic security system for the ministry. On Monday police interviewed the vice-chief of police, Nicola Izzo, one of the people mentioned in the anonymous letter.
