Monti discusses eurozone with German finance minister

(ANSA) – Rome, November 2 - Italian Prime Minister Mario Monti discussed the single euro currency and the process of European integration in Milan on Friday with former German Finance Minister Peer Steinbruck. The German minister is also the Spd party candidate seeking to oust Chancellor Angela Merkel in the 2013 general elections. "In a long and pleasant meeting Monti and Steinbruck, who have been acquainted with each other since 2000 when they were respectively European Competition Commissioner and German Finance Minister, exchanged thoughts on the situation in the European Union", said a statement released by Monti's offices in Rome. "There was a particolar focus on the eurozone and on the need to accelerate the European integration process, as well as on the economical and political prospective of Italy and Germany".
