Berlusconi asked to testify in Tarantini extortion case

Tarantini suspected of providing prostitutes for ex-premier

Rome, October 31 - Former Italian premier Silvio Berlusconi on Wednesday was asked by Rome prosecutors to give testimony in an extortion case involving Giampaolo Tarantini, an entrepreneur from Bari, in southern Italy. The prosecutors are investigating claims that Tarantini attempted to extort money from Berlusconi, at the time still Italy's premier, in exchange for telling prosecutors that Berlusconi had no idea the girls at parties held in his Rome residence were paid escorts. The prosecutors also asked for an extension in the investigation's deadline.
