(ANSA) – Paris, October 31 – Personalities and politicians in Paris on Tuesday celebrated the exclusive twinning arrangement between the capitals of Italy and France, forged some 52 years ago. The commemoration took place at the Hotel de Ville, the local municipality headquarters, and reflected on the current state of the relationship between the two cities that was officially formed in 1956. The motto at the time was branded "Only Paris is worthy of Rome, and only Rome is worthy of Paris". Amongst those attending the event was the editor of Italian newspaper la Repubblica, Italian film director Ettore Scola, the mayor of the fourth arrondissement or district of Paris, Christophe Girard, and the former mayor of Rome Walter Veltroni. French historian Pierre Milza was awarded the 'Italiques 2012' prize during the event for his book on the Italian patriot Giuseppe Garibaldi.
