Government calls on tax relief for energy-efficiency work

House commission blocks money-saving 'dark skies' provision

Rome, October 26 - The House environment commission on Friday blocked provisions contained in a new budget proposal to reduce public lighting across the country in order to save money. Instead it agreed to uphold measures concerning the upgrade or replacement of existing lighting systems in accordance with new energy-saving technologies. The commission is also calling on the government to make tax relief on energy-efficiency work permament and for this to be extended to anti-seismic consolidation works on buildings. The so-called Stability Law was approved by the government last week and is now making its long journey through parliament.
