Rome, October 26 - The Prada-backed Luna Rossa team on Friday launched the AC72-class wingsailed catamaran they will use in their bid to win the 34th America's Cup in Auckland New Zealand. Luna Rossa had to build the state-of-the-art boat in just six months as they only presented their late entry to challenge for sailing's top prize in April. The boat was developed in such a short space of time with the help of an agreement to share technical data with another Cup challenger, Team New Zealand. It was presented in waters of the Waitemata Harbor in Auckland, where Luna Rossa made its Cup debut 12 years ago, because the teams have also agreed on a joint training programme over the coming months. World famous fashion designer Miuccia Prada christened the boat in the traditional way by shattering a bottle of champagne across the bowsprit.
