Man sets himself alight outside president's palace

(ANSA) - Rome, October 18 - A man set himself alight on Thursday outside Rome's Quirinale palace, the official residence of Italian President Giorgio Napolitano. The man received swift medical assistance and was taken to hospital and his life is said not to be in danger even though he suffered many burns. ANSA sources said he is a 55-year-old Romanian man who lives in Pinerolo, in the northern region of Piedmont. He is said to have acted so suddenly that the police officers outside the palace had no time to stop him.
