Four Roman police officers under investigation for rape

(ANSA) - Rome, October 17 - Four police officers in Rome are under investigation for aggravated sexual assault and abuse of power after a woman said she was attacked in a police station in 2011. Prosecutors have taken steps towards requesting a hearing into the case that dates from the night of February 23 and early morning of February 24, 2011. A 33-year-old woman says the officers attacked her at the Quadraro station. Under investigation are Alessio Lo Bartolo, Vincenzo Cosimo Stano, Francesco Carrara and Leonardo Pizzarelli, who was the guard on duty that night. The four are also accused of misuse of alcohol and unlawful restraint. Prosecutors say they attacked the woman, who had been picked up for theft, in police barracks.
