EU foreign ministers try to push Tehran back to negotiations

Iran sanctions 'aim to halt uranium enrichment' says Terzi

(ANSA) - Luxembourg, October 15 - The European Union is levying further sanctions on Iran in order bring a "rapid" halt to its uranium-enrichment program, Italian Foreign Minister Giulio Terzi said Monday. "The message is that we have to find a rapid way to bring an end to uranium enrichment for nuclear-arms purposes," said Terzi. EU foreign ministers met in Luxembourg Monday and decided to increase sanctions on Iran, which claims its nuclear ambitions are non-military. The sanctions will affect banking and gas imports from Iran to Europe, and it is meant to bring Tehran back to the negotiating table after the EU blocked the import of Iranian oil in July, ministers said.
