Swimming: Italy's former world champion Filippi retires

(ANSA) - Rome, October 12 - Italy's former world swimming champion Alessia Filippi said Friday that she is retiring from the sport. ''It's a difficult choice'', the 25-year old said. ''Sport is my life''. Filippi won the gold in the 1500m freestyle at the 2009 world championships in Rome in 2009. She won gold in the 800m freestyle at the Beijing Olympics in 2008.
