Pompeii vineyard reaps 50 tonnes of grapes this year

(ANSA) - Pompeii, October 11 - An experimental vineyard grown on the Pompeii ruins in southern Italy reaped 50 tonnes of grapes this year, including the renowned Aglianico variety, permitting hundreds of visitors to participate in traditional grape-picking. The vineyard was planted in 1994 in a bid to restore viticulture to the areas where wine was harvested in ancient times. The vineyard produced its first wine in 2001, with the 'Villa of the Mysteries' series.
