Over 650,000 in jewels stolen from Damiani shop in Milan

(ANSA) - Milan, October 11 - A "tall, thin man dressed entirely in black" was filmed by surveillance cameras in Milan robbing over 650,000 euros' worth of jewels from a Damiani shop display window, police said on Thursday. After jumping a protective fence and smashing a reinforced glass window with a hammer, the thief managed to reach inside the display and remove seven pieces of jewelry including diamond earrings worth 55,000 euros, two rings worth 56,300 and 106,650 euros and a pearl necklace valued at 24,850 euros. The robbery took place at the luxury jewellery shop on Milan's exclusive Montenapoleone shopping street. Police said that the lone man escaped on a Tmax moped and apparently acted without accomplices.
