Call-center workers scale Capitoline Hill in layoffs protest

(ANSA) - Rome, October 10 - A group of call-center employees climbed atop the roof of local government offices at the Capitoline Hill in Rome Wednesday in a protest against local layoffs at London-based cellular provider Vodafone. "The company hired 133 (local) employees, 28 have been fired and tomorrow there will be a meeting with the Lazio regional government to lay off the remaining 100," said Rosanna D'Apolito, who said she has worked at Vodafone since 1998. "We call on Vodafone to respect the laws that require them to relocate the workers".
