Lazio caucus head of anti-graft IDV party probed

(see related story on corruption scandals) (ANSA) - Rome, October 10 - Vincenzo Salvatore Maruccio, the caucus head in Lazio for the anti-graft Italy of Values (IdV) party, has been put under investigation for allegedly embezzling half a million euros of public money, judicial sources said Wednesday. Investigators suspect Maruccio diverted public money intended to finance his party's activities in the region around Lazio into bank accounts in his own name. Franco Fiorito, the former caucus chief in Lazio of ex-premier Silvio Berlusconi's People of Freedom (PdL) party, is in prison after being arrested last week on suspicion of embezzling over one million eyros of public money. The case caused Renata Poverini to resign as governor of Lazio last month.
