Six Casalesi arrests

Businessman forced to pay 35,000 euros in protection money

Six Casalesi arrests

(ANSA) - Caserta, October 3 - Six suspected members of the notorious Casalesi clan of the Neapolitan Camorra mafia were arrested for extortion Wednesday. Among their victims, police said, was a businessman who won a tender to build a residential complex near Caserta and was forced to pay 35,000 euros in protection money. The probe, which was opened after an anti-Casalesi homily by a local priest, targeted members of the clan loyal to Michele Zagaria, one of the Casalesi bosses whose death threats have forced anti-mafia writer Roberto Saviano - author of Gomorrah - into round-the-clock police protection.
