Holocaust survivor Venezia dies

(ANSA) - Rome, October 1 - One of Italy's last Holocaust survivors, Shlomo Venezia, died Sunday night aged 89. Venezia, who was born in Thessaloniki in Greece, was deported to Auschwitz in 1944. He wrote about the ordeal in a book, 'SonderKommando 182727', which was translated into 24 languages, and was a prominent figure on many 'Memory Trips' to the Nazi death camp. Rome authorities sent their condolences to Venezia's relatives.
