Golf: Molinari 'speechless' after Ryder Cup heroics

(ANSA) - Rome, October 1 - Italy's Francesco Molinari said he was struggling to find words to express his joy after helping Europe clinch arguably the most dramatic Ryder Cup ever by holding Tiger Woods to a tie in the last singles match. The halved match enabled Europe to triumph 14.5-13.5 and complete a remarkable comeback after they trailed 10-6 going into the final day on Sunday. "I'm truly speechless," said Molinari, who also helped Europe win the competition two years ago when his brother Edoardo was part of the team too. "I know that's what everyone says when things like this happen, but frankly this was extraordinary. "I took on Woods remembering that the last time (in the singles match-up against him in 2010) it went quite badly even though I played well. "This time I wanted to give my best and then see what the results were. At the end of the match I had a few chances to go one up, but the draw was perfectly OK, especially in the light of what it was worth". The half point Molinari earned against Woods in singles was his only contribution to Europe's score at the 2012 Ryder Cup.
